Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Flying Tourbillon Chronograph
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Flying Tourbillon Chronograph has revealed a new, entirely redesigned 43mm Royal Oak Offshore case size with a haute horlogerie limited-edition flying tourbillon flyback chronograph.
Presumably introduced to eventually replace the existing 42mm and 44mm cases entirely, the new ‘evolved’ 43mm case has been completely redesigned, here in titanium, with improved appearance and ergonomics in mind featuring wider beveled edges as well as a vertically curved bezel and sapphire crystal.
It also represents the first time a flying tourbillon has appeared in an Royal Oak Offshore. The Calibre 2967 adapts the existing Calibre 2952 that debuted in AP’s Code 11.59 collection late last year for the larger diameter of the Offshore, while also switching up the movement’s aesthetic from a crisp luxury geometry to an altogether sportier, more muscular feel.
The movement’s open-worked satin-brushed titanium bridges, which make up the watch’s open dial, are treated to a black PVD coating while sandblasted and polished raw titanium inserts present a high contrast look, not dissimilar to air intakes on a supercar.
While the Calibre 2967 matches its predecessor with 65 hours of power reserve the watch itself offers a more reassuring 100m of water resistance more inline with the Offshore’s sportier characteristics. The watch also features Audemars Piguet’s new quick change strap system, which is built directly into the watch’s iconic studs, and is supplied with a a black alligator strap and a black rubber alternative.
With the new Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Flyback Chronograph, Audemars Piguet introduces a new complication in the Royal Oak Offshore collection together with a revamping of the overall aesthetics. This selfwinding timepiece combines a flying tourbillon with a flyback chronograph housed in a restyled 43 mm titanium case that paves the way for a new generation of Royal Oak Offshore models presenting larger polished chamfers on the edges, curved bezel and sapphire crystal, and curved chronograph pushers. The signature bezel frames the openworked dial disclosing the architecture of the multi-layered movement whose dark tones creates a contrasting background for the white gold hands and white transferred minute track. The red chronograph hands enhance the sporty look of the watch. While the flyback function enables to restart the chronograph without stopping or resetting it first, the flying tourbillon making its rotation at 6 o’clock improves the accuracy by compensating for the effect of gravity. The transparent sapphire crystal caseback makes it possible to appreciate the nice finishes of Calibre 2967 whose titanium bridges are adorned with black PVD coating and titanium inserts for a two-tone contrast. The openworked oscillating weight in 22-carat gold is also coated with black PVD. Beating at the frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour), it offers 65 hours of power reserve
The watch is equipped with an interchangeable black rubber strap with sandblasted titanium folding clasp and delivered with an additional interchangeable black “large square-scale” alligator strap. Its double-push system makes the change simple and fast while granting optimum security when the watch is on the wrist.
