TAG Heuer Formula 1 quartz
I bought this watch a few years back to tide me over until I could purchase an Omega Speedmaster. The plan was to enjoy it and then move it along if I ever got the Speedmaster.
At 42mm in diameter and 12mm thick with a short lug to lug length, the Tag Heuer Formula 1 wears well on my just over 7 inch wrist. The unique case design with its hooded lugs and tucked in chronograph pushers together with the real stars of the show, the anthracite dial and ceramic bezel make for an attractive timepiece. With a water resistance of 200m coupled with its Swiss quartz movement, the Formula 1 is a great grab and go watch. The 20/18mm bracelet is well made and it matches the watch perfectly. The one small gripe that I have with the Formula 1 is the clasp. It is not a bad clasp, but it does not have a double lock and it only has 3 micro adjustment holes. These issues are not deal breakers by any means, but they should be pointed out.
The Tag Heuer Formula 1 was the first line of watches produced by the company formed when Techniques d’Avant Garde (TAG) purchased the legendary but struggling Heuer in 1985. The Formula 1 combines the racing history of both TAG and Heuer. Some purists believe that when Tag Heuer Formula 1 took over Heuer things went downhill. I am of the opinion that TAG saved the iconic Heuer brand from disappearing, and for that I am thankful.
For those of you who are wondering, I recently did buy that Speedmaster and I quickly decided that this Formula 1 would stay put in my collection. There is plenty of room in my watch box for both of these fantastic chronographs.
