Hublot Big Bang Unico Berluti Aluminio
While the name might suggest aluminum, the latest watch to result from Hublot’s partnership with Berluti brings together titanium and leather for a new limited edition.
The 44mm Hublot Big Bang Unico Berluti Aluminio uses Berluti’s patinated Venezia leather on its new polished titanium bezel and dial, with the Swiss Made lettering being “gauffered” directly onto the leather, before being sealed between two layers of sapphire crystal. Aluminio refers to the signature Berluti patina that has been used for this piece.
The polished bezel is a new design for Hublot, with its leather insert held in place by resin, before being screwed down into the case. The construction leaves the leather exposed, which will allow it to develop its own patina over time unlike the leather of the dial which has been fixed.
A cut-out in the leather dial also reveals the beating escapement of the Unico automatic flyback chronograph movement.
The 100-piece limited edition is supplied with a burnished Aluminio Venezia leather strap, while a version with a Scritto motif is available exclusively in Japan. The watch is presented with a travel pouch and Berluti shoehorn keyring.
The men’s fashion house Berluti and Swiss watchmaker Hublot have teamed up once again to present a new interpretation of the Big Bang Unico. They have combined fashion and watchmaking, leather and titanium, form and substance to create the new Big Bang Unico Berluti Aluminio. As with every collaboration between Hublot and Berluti, this edition will be limited to 100 models.
The polished titanium bezel of the new Hublot Big Bang Unico Berluti Aluminio features patinated Venezia leather. The same material dominates the dial, where the indices and words “Swiss Made” are gauffered directly on the surface. The leather is held between two pieces of sapphire glass, whose cut reveals the parts of the Unico movement. A special method was developed to encapsulate natural leather colors and crystallize them in time. The strap of the timepiece is available in two versions: one in burnished Aluminio Venezia leather; another in patinated Aluminio Venezia leather with the Scritto motif, exclusively for Japan.
For this model, Hublot created the new, two-part bezel design. With the help of a sticky, rigid resin, the first piece of the bezel, which is covered in leather and about 1 mm thick, is inserted onto the second piece, in grey titanium, and then screwed onto the case of the watch. This will allow the bezel to be patinated time, just like the strap.
The 44-mm case and the deployant clasp of the watch are made in titanium, the central horn is crafted using resin, tungsten was used for the oscillating weight, and satin-finished rhodium for the hands. The gears of the Unico movement, an authentic manufacture self-winding Flyback chronograph with three full days of power reserve, can be admired thanks to the cut of the two pieces of sapphire glass that hold the leather on the dial-side.
The Hublot Big Bang Unico Berluti Aluminio will be delivered in a special case with a travel pouch, and a shoehorn key ring with the Berluti logo.
